This is the perfect dehumidifier for those of you who are planning on using the device in a location where you can’t simply use a gravity hose. The design of the Cube will allow you to place the bucket higher than the floor, which will, in turn, make it possible to use a gravity hose.
The Midea Cube is a simple cube that you can stack up. The bucket sits at the bottom of the device and the fan sits at the top.
As you will place the bucket higher than the floor, you can use it with a gravity hose.
You also get a filter at each side to capture dust and large particles.
It’s important to vacuum and clean the filter regularly, as you would with the pre-filter of an air purifier.

A fairly new brand but this 50 pint model was one of the quietest when running on low fan speed and was still very effective at removing water from the air
The AEOCKY Boreas 001 is small enough to use in locations like bedrooms or other smaller spaces, its big feature is how quiet it is, only hitting 48.1 dBA from 3 feet away which is much quieter than many of the other dehumidifiers with similar performance that we tested.
Another big highlight of this brand is that they offer a 3 year warranty whilst most other dehumidifiers at this price point only offer 1 year. The reality is that many dehumidifiers can break after 1 year, just read some of the 1 star reviews on Amazon, so having 3 years can be super helpful if anything does go wrong.
A big chunky handle folds open at the top and makes it easy to move around the home and for those with hard floors there are castor wheels so it can easily be pushed around.
The pre-filter is easy to remove and helps to protect the internals from being damaged from any particles/objects that are in your air.

3. Best traditional dehumidifier: Frigidaire 50-Pint
A trusted brand known for more traditional designs for those who don’t like the idea of the Midea Cube.
Last year, I recommended Honeywell models for those looking for a traditional dehumidifier. However, since then, their entire range of large-capacity dehumidifiers has been discontinued. So this year, we are recommending the latest 50-Pint model from Frigidaire FHDD5034Y1.
It was the third quickest at reducing humidity in our test tent after the Honeywell 50-Pint and the Moisewell XP70.
In our tests, the 50-Pint Frigidaire extracted 1.137 liters of water in three (3) hours, which was 0.004 liters more than the Honeywell 50-Pint model.
Sound-wise, it was the third loudest model we tested. Still, it’s nearly six (6) decibels quieter than the similarly performing Honeywell 50-Pint model.
It has buttons to set your desired humidity level, adjust the fan speed (hi-med-lo), and switch between modes (auto, quiet, and dry). You also get a screen that displays humidity readings in real-time.
Like any 50-Pint refrigerant dehumidifier, it’s heavy, so I appreciated the sturdy handle that is easily pulled out from the top.
The main difference between last year’s Frigidaire model and the latest 50-Pint version is an increase in efficiency from 1.80 L/kWh to 2.01 L/kWh.

Best Desiccant: Ivation 13-Pint
My top picks can be bulky and might not fit your space so let me tell you about the only small dehumidifier that is worth your money.
Up to now, I’ve been recommending refrigerant dehumidifiers, which use a condensation process to remove moisture from the air. But this Ivation device is a desiccant dehumidifier, so it absorbs moisture without using refrigerants. This makes it possible for the Ivation to be much smaller, while still performing quite well.
It is half the size of the Honeywell 50-Pint but still managed to reduce the humidity in our grow tent nearly as fast:

And it did this while generating just 53.8 decibels of noise, which is a lot quieter than what you can expect from those larger devices.
In terms of controls, you get three modes (low, high and sleep) or you can just set the desired humidity level, you get a button to dim the lights and a timer button.
You also get a button to adjust the direction of the warm air at the back of the device.

Best Crawl Space/Basement: Moiswell Defender M145
A powerful crawl space dehumidifier for even the largest of damp areas
Moiswell is a specialist dehumidifier brand that produces large crawl space and commercial dehumidifiers, from 145 pints to 320 pints per day.
This model provides commercial grade de-humidification without the professional price tag. The Moiswell 145 Pint dehumidifier is a great option for those who want to look beyond standard big box style residential dehumidifiers
Its height is 13.3 inches, which is small enough for even the tightest crawl spaces. I am currently using it on my basement floor as I haven’t got around to mounting it on my floor joists. It weighs 70 lbs (or nearly 32 kg), so I will need help from someone else to mount it.
That being said, I was glad to see Moiswell added handles at the top of the dehumidifier, making it easier to move around – yes, it is still heavy but the handle bars make picking it up A LOT less challenging.
The control panel is really straightforward. It has four buttons, one for switching on/off, two for adjusting the humidity target and a timer function, so you can set it up to work for a specific amount of time.
With the pump option, you also have an internal pump that can move the water vertically up to 16.5ft, which is excellent for use in basements where the drain is often higher than the basement floor.
The Moiswell 145 Pint dehumidifier also offers you the option of using an external pump, allowing you to move water anywhere, depending on the pump’s power.
It’s worth noting that these commercial-style dehumidifiers save space by not having a water bucket, so you will need a hose to remove the water. There is no option just to have the unit collect internally.

It seems like new dehumidifier models come out weekly, but you should know that they are usually very similar to previous ones, so you don’t need to worry about trying to keep up with the latest dehumidifier as you would with an iPhone.
Pay attention to the features
I recommend choosing simple dehumidifiers without fancy smart models or internal pumps as they will cost you a lot of money and won’t add a lot of value.
Sadly, many dehumidifiers have a habit of failing.
