The now discontinued FGAC5044W1 was part of the Frigidaire Gallery series, released in 2020.
It completed our extraction test as fast as other popular 50-pint models from brands like Honeywell, and benefits from a larger-than-average water bucket (16.9 pints vs. the 7-14 pints you’ll find in models from other brands).
In our electricity consumption tests, this Frigidaire dehumidifier proved to be much more power hungry than most, with one of the highest energy draws we have seen.

Water bucket
A bucket that is larger than average.
The bucket slides out from the front of the device, so you won’t need to move the dehumidifier around as you would with the Xiaomi Smart Dehumidifier Lite.
With a capacity of 16.9 pints, this is the second largest bucket across all 13 dehumidifiers I’ve tested – the bucket handle is much appreciated!
Design, features and controls
Excellent build quality, wheels and a solid handle at the top.
This Frigidaire is heavy, so it’s great to get such a solid handle that pulls out from the top.
It comes on castor wheels, which make it easy to move around on the floor.
There’s a continuous drainage option that you can hook up from the back.
You just need to unscrew the drain cap to screw a hose onto the drain connector.
It has buttons to set the desired humidity level, adjust fan speeds, and switch modes.
You also get a screen that displays humidity readings in real-time.
Dehumidification performance
We tested the Frigidaire FGAC5044W1 in our grow test using a humidifier and our trusted hygrometer.
When running at full speed, this Frigidaire 50-pint dehumidifier reduced humidity from 97.79% to 35.5% in 30 minutes.
As you can see from the chart, the FGAC5044W1 model was the third quickest at reducing humidity in our tent, right after the Honeywell 50-pint and the Moisewell XP70.
In our tests, this 50-Pint Frigidaire extracted 1.137 liters of water in three hours. This was 0.004 liters more than the Honeywell 50-Pint model extracted.
Sound levels
The sound levels of the Frigidaire FGAC5044W1 reached from 62.7 dBA — which is quieter than large dehumidifiers from Honeywell and GE.
I used our BAFX sound meter to measure the sound level the Frigidaire 50-Pint generates when running at top speed. At a distance of 3 ft., I recorded 62.7 dBA.
This makes the FGAC5044W1 quieter than both the Honeywell and GE models, but it’s still the third loudest in our benchmark:
Long-term running costs
Running a Frigidaire FGAC5044W1 will cost you $307.35 per year, assuming you run it 8 hours per day.
We used our energy meter to record how much electricity this dehumidifier pulls when running at top speed.
In our test, we measured 655.29 watts — this is one of the most power-hungry dehumidifiers we’ve tested here at HouseFresh:
This means the Frigidaire 50-Pint is more power-hungry than units with similar water removal performance (1.127 liters in 3 hours), such as the Midea Cube (0.99 liters in 3 hours). This helps explain why the Midea Cube is still our top recommendation for those looking for a dehumidifier in 2026.
Bottom line: Should you get a Frigidaire 50-Pint dehumidifier?
A good performing dehumidifier with a water bucket that is larger than average and quieter operation than most.
While this model (FGAC5044W1) has now been discontinued due to the use of R-410A refrigerant, Frigidaire replaced it with the FHDD5034Y1.
The FGAC5044W1 is also a 50-Pint dehumidifier and it has an improved efficiency to 2.01 L/KWh, which is on par with the very best portable dehumidifiers on the market right now.
The new 50-Pint model shares some of the same downsides as this model I’m reviewing today, such as high energy usage. That said, both models still benefit from the well-designed handle and a larger-than-average water bucket.
I just wish that Frigidaire would extend the warranty beyond just 1 year, as you get with dehumidifiers from brands like Moiswell and Ebac.
